Frida Kahlo appears in this painting as a point of union and communion between all nations and civilizations.
This Mexican painter, who has always been in the "in-between" of modernity and tradition, presents herself as a goddess between earth and sky. She draws the energy and wealth that her land offers her to try to rise above her torments and pains, and as she said so well "Pies para que los quiero si tengo alas para volar" (Why would I want feet if I have wings to fly); part of the quote is written just above her portrait.
Like a goddess, she represents the hope that all nations and civilizations can become one to transcend all the misfortunes that can befall the human species but also our Mother Earth...
