On a modernized black background where brushstrokes are visible, Simone Veil appears as a guardian of women's rights.
A play on words with "Simone veille..." (Simone watches over...) in the sense that we must not consider our rights as eternally acquired. Even today, these rights can be challenged, or even abolished in other countries.
This painting is part of an upcoming series that will pay tribute to women who have helped advance rights and equality between men and women. In any case, Simone Veil remains an admirable figure due to her painful past in concentration camps and her journey as a woman in the patriarchal political world of that era.
The black background with visible brushstrokes, like an unfinished canvas, is a nod to Street Art or posters pasted on walls that often convey committed messages.
