Print on Artistic Paper of the painting The Cry of the Pandemic.
Painting inspired by Munch's famous The Scream and created with the aim of transcribing the shock and fear we all felt when the virus arrived.
Format: 50-100 cm
A canvas that was originally created on a simple piece of cardboard during the first lockdown. I wanted to emphasize the "make do" aspect of this period when we lived at home and tried to adapt to this unprecedented situation.
Given the global scale of the pandemic and the place it has occupied in our daily lives, the only image that came to mind at the beginning, when we knew nothing about this virus, was Munch's famous scream. I think it's hard to find such an expressive face in the world of painting.
However, I did not want to fall into a sad and sinister representation of the situation, and to insist on the solidarity that many have also shown during this period, represented by the two hands that support a strangled human heart.
For me, it was also important to focus on the positive aspects of the situation in order to assimilate and accept it. Because during this period, the planet and nature were also able to regain their rights thanks to the drastic reduction in activities and transport, hence the bright colors of the painting which symbolize life but also rebirth...
There is also a reference to the Persistence of Memory, the famous "soft watches" by Salvador Dali which represent a freeze frame, where the seconds no longer pass... to mark the almost total cessation of our "lives", or rather our "habits of life". in these periods of confinement...
