Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of the most famous Baroque works in the history of painting. It was painted by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer around 1665.

Always with the aim of drawing inspiration from the great masters of painting in order to counter this anxious period that we have all experienced and which unfortunately still continues today.

I chose to draw inspiration from it to draw all the energy and light that this painting conveys.

The light captured by the various light collages of her face and the bright, transparent reflections of her turban make her sparkle in the shadows, enhancing the young girl's freshness and purity. This aspect is reinforced by a black trail all around her portrait that forms an aura.

The choice to represent a light-colored young girl against a dark background accentuates the contrast, and thus the effect of presence, marking the importance of this moment when she stares at the painter (or the spectator) from the side.
She seems surprised, her mouth half-open as if the painting captures a suspended moment.

The colors are intended to be vivid and intense, both in the turban she wears and in her dress, to reflect her youth and her thirst for life. Her aura appears all around her like a subtle imprint embedded in the black background.

To achieve even more intensity, these colors were taken up by dripping on the black background.

All the mysteries surrounding such a famous masterpiece have allowed for certain interpretations.
Thus, The Girl with a Pearl Earring inspired a novel of the same name by British writer Tracy Chevalier in 1999. She imagines a platonic but fascinated relationship between Vermeer and a young servant who serves as her model.
The novel was adapted for the big screen by Peter Webber in 2003, starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth .
