Guernic'Hope

This painting is inspired by the famous "Guernica" by Pablo Picasso, which is one of my favorite works by the Grand Master because of the impact it has on the viewer and the commitment it represents.

I had the chance to admire this great work at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, and since that day, I have only had the idea of drawing inspiration from it or creating my own version.

From the painting Guernica, which depicts the German aerial attack on the Basque village of "Guernica" and is horrifying at first glance, I decided to focus on a single small element in the painting to which no one necessarily pays attention: the small flower at the bottom, almost in the center of the painting. For me, it represents the hope of renewal and a better future.

Thus, the small flower in my painting has grown and expanded, taking up the right side, which generally represents the future in works of art.

And all the elements of Guernica have been repurposed with the hope of a better future, blending Spain and France through iconic representations of both countries.

The small window from which the characters in Guernica cannot escape has become an open sky where the characters have the opportunity to project themselves toward true values, which would be promoted by benevolent media represented by the strength and spirit of the beautiful stallion in motion. The gloomy atmosphere of the gray tones of Guernica is brightened by a powerful source of heat that illuminates and brings joy to all the characters seeking the light.

The dead child from Guernica in his mother's arms becomes a dove... And the latter falls in love with the powerful bull dressed in a suit of lights.

Even if the context cannot be compared in any way to the Civil War, it can in a sense resemble the current crisis that many countries are unfortunately facing...

But the resistance is there, the flag raised and a weapon in hand: no pasaran!
