I do not paint Frida Kahlo because she is "newly fashionable," but because I have known her history and journey for a very long time due to my specialized training in Hispanic literature and civilization. She then crossed my path again as a painter, a woman, and a person suffering from a chronic illness.
The black lines framing her portrait are like bars that represent the pain and prison of her body, enhanced by the magic of artistic expression.
She is a great Mexican painter whose courage and strength I admire in the face of the various adversities she encountered in her life. Afflicted by illness and then the victim of an accident, she was always a prisoner of a suffering body, yet she always knew how to hold her head high and never stopped painting until the end of her life.
Her portrait is illuminated by the color yellow, like a Mexican Madonna. She was always attached to her Mexican identity and to Mother Earth, as she represents herself in the painting at the top right, receiving plant-based milk.
Canvas fully protected by a high-quality varnish.
Painting will be carefully packed with reinforced cardboard for optimal delivery.
