Face Memory

This canvas is titled "Behind the mask..."

Format: 60/60 cm

3D Canvas : Canvas with deep painted edges that do not require framing.

Mixed media : mortar, mask, feathers, and stiffened fabric. Canvas with various volumes: base created with mortar, then relief added to the mask and fabric.

In Memory Mask, a carnival mask rests half-buried in an ochre and copper-colored material, as if forgotten beneath a fine dusting of time. The pleated fabric, frozen in golden light, winds through the foreground and guides the gaze toward a surface adorned with lace imprints. Between reliefs, cracks, and floral patterns, the texture becomes almost a landscape, where skin, textile, and earth merge.

This mixed media artwork plays on contrasts: the softness of the drape against the roughness of the background, warm light against deep shadows. The mask evokes the identities we assume and then abandon, while the textile imprints retain the trace of what has been experienced. Memory Mask questions what remains after the festivities: memories, scars, buried secrets. A tactile and sensitive painting, blending contemporary art, texture, and memory, which invites the viewer to project their own story into this suspended setting.
