The background of the canvas, composed of collages representing some of Dali's most enigmatic paintings, was worked like street art with spray cans and some stencils. Van Gogh's Starry Night was done in oil and the portrait of Dali with collages and black marker.

Salvador Dali always knew how to play with his image. One could even say that his portrait is a work of art in itself with his tortured gaze and his famous mustache. Van Gogh's Starry Night perfectly reflects the tormented and creative mind of Dali who, like the surrealists, uses psychic forces (automatism, dreams, unconscious) to express himself. These forces are also represented by the reflection of Dali's deconstructed portrait in the lower part of the painting which appears both cloudy and liquid.

Magnifying glasses allow us to question our way of seeing what surrounds us and to be able to distinguish between "seeing" and "giving to see"... Because the psyche is closely linked to our way of observing and apprehending our own reality. It's up to us to shed light or not...
