Under Van Gogh's beautiful starry blue sky appears the face of Frida Kahlo, a famous Mexican painter who had a life strewn with pitfalls that she always faced with dignity and courage. What interests me is the intimacy of this great woman who was able to bring out from within her an immeasurable strength in the face of an extraordinary destiny, hence the title "The Thousand and One Fridas." But this plurality also designates all the intimate and physical breakages that she had to endure during her life, due to polio, a bus accident and her passionate relationship with a great Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera. These breakages are represented by the different mosaics that make up the various collages on her face. Locked in a broken and painful body, she always continued to paint, even when she was forced to lie in her bed.
A mirror was also hung from the ceiling so that she could take numerous self-portraits, hence the importance of having chosen her own portrait in my painting.
